Description
Those who feel at home here
Nature lovers, those seeking peace and quiet and couples who love hiking and long for a break from everyday life will find their little paradise in Mergoscia. This traditional village is a harmonious combination of nature, history and living Ticino culture - far away from the hustle and bustle, embedded in a quiet, unspoilt atmosphere.
About the accommodation
Casa Villa Esperanto is a historic Ticino stone house, owned for generations by the De Pedroni family, who once came here by horse-drawn carriage from Locarno to spend the summer in the cool mountain air. The house still preserves a way of life that is simple, close to nature and characterised by tranquillity and constancy. When you step through the old wooden portal, you immediately sense that the clocks tick more slowly here. Important to know: The house is only accessible on foot - a short path leads from the edge of the village via a natural stone staircase through the garden directly to the front door. The accommodation is not suitable for children under the age of 14 and guests should be sure-footed and good walkers. There is no private car park; parking is in the public car park on the village street. There is no TV or internet in the house - but there is plenty of positive energy, ideal for switching off.
Room layout
Casa Villa Esperanto is spread over two floors. On the ground floor there is the kitchen with a view of the greenery, a cosy living room with rustic wooden beams and a large terrace with a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside - perfect for breakfast in the morning sun or a glass of wine in the evening. On the upper floor there is a bedroom with a double bed and one with two single beds. Also on this floor are a small bathroom with shower, a separate toilet and a small, antique book collection. The furnishings are simple, natural and charming - characterised by stone, wood and lots of history.
Location and accessibility
The house is in a quiet and sunny location in the Busada neighbourhood on the edge of Mergoscia, high above Lago di Vogorno. Access is by car to the edge of the village, then a short footpath with steps leads to the house. The "Mergoscia Busada" bus stop is just a few minutes' walk away and offers connections to the Verzasca Valley, Tenero and Locarno. Lake Maggiore and Locarno can be reached in about 20 minutes.
Activities and experiences
Mergoscia is the ideal starting point for hikes through the Verzasca Valley, for walks along ancient stone walls and for discovering unspoilt nature. Swimming at Lago di Vogorno, excursions to Lake Maggiore or a stroll through Locarno can be wonderfully combined with days of tranquillity in the village.
