Berghotel Mettmen

Naturally. Pure. be a guest. The Berghotel Mettmen is located in Glarnerland, in the middle of the Freiberg Kärpf at 1600 m above sea level. We are an alpine inn with a cozy restaurant right at the mountain station of the Kies-Mettmen cable car. In 2016, today's mountain hotel was rebuilt on the foundations of the former workers' accommodation - it was used to build the dam. The architecture of the house speaks with clear forms and reduced materials. The view of the valley is breathtaking. The Berghotel Mettmen can be seen from afar and shines as a regional lighthouse at night all the way to the canton's capital.
The idyllic Mettmensee is the heart and center of the Mettmen-Alp. Countless beautiful hikes through Freiberg Kärpf, the oldest game reserve in Europe, begin here. The circular hike around the lake takes 30 minutes, the ascent to the Leglerhütte takes 2.5 hours and the transition over Wildmadfurggeli to Elm takes around 4.5 hours. Climbers will find a real Eldorado at the Widderstein climbing garden, around 30 minutes above Mettmenalp. Fishermen use the Mettmensee and the surrounding mountain streams or mountain lakes for fishing. The Kärpfbrücke at the Oberstafel of the Mettmen-Alp is a geological sensation. In summer around 150 head of cattle and cows are at home on the Mettmen-Alp. Other animals on the Mettmen-Alp are chamois, mongoose (marmots), eagles and, further up, the ibex. All animals in the Freiberg Kärpf are best seen in the early morning hours.
