Hotel Schatzalp – The Magic Mountain above Davos

On a sunny plateau directly above Davos, at 1,861 m above sea level, lies the Schatzalp, also known as the "Magic Mountain". First of all, readers of Thomas Mann's literary masterpiece of the same name see the setting of the novel here. And secondly, the Schatzalp still takes its guests on a journey through time in a very special and mysterious way.

The Hotel Schatzalp is located 300 meters above Davos, in a unique south-facing location. Built between 1898 and 1900 in the Art Nouveau style, the house was designed as a luxury sanatorium. At the beginning of the twentieth century, it was considered the most advanced sanatorium in the region. Since 1953, it has been run as a first-class hotel. The novel "The Magic Mountain" (1924) by the German writer and Nobel laureate Thomas Mann immortalized the hotel and the entire mountain. As a two-season activity, the house is open from June to mid-October and from December to the end of March.

Culinary delights in the hotel
The Schatzalp panorama restaurant offers a magnificent view of Davos and spoils its guests with Graubünden specialties. In the Belle Époque restaurant, guests dine in the evening in an elegant atmosphere reminiscent of the turn of the century and enjoy contemporary cuisine. On the hotel's sun terrace of the Snowbeach restaurant, guests are spoiled with Graubünden and Mediterranean dishes, cakes and a good glass of wine. The motto is "Top of Davos".

Summer on the Schatzalp
Right in front of the hotel, the Alpinum Schatzalp botanical garden invites you to linger. Plants from mountains all over the world bloom here, from the Pyrenees to New Zealand, Nepal and Tibet. The 500-metre-long child-friendly summer toboggan run is also great fun for the little ones. A short ascent of about 15 minutes leads to the mountain restaurant Strela Alp (1,921 m above sea level). It has a sun terrace with a fantastic view of Davos. If you want to climb higher, continue to the Strelapass mountain restaurant (approx. 2,350 m above sea level). One of the most beautiful and quiet terraces in Davos awaits you there, with homemade Graubünden specialties.

Winter on the Schatzalp
The classic winter toboggan run starts directly from the hotel. The wide, well-groomed trail continues for 2.8 km and leads through 18 bends through the magical forest of the Schatzalp to Davos Platz. The family-friendly Schatzalp–Strela ski comprehension, known as the "Slow Mountain", promises skiing pleasure without the hustle and bustle and crowds. The Strela Alp mountain restaurant and the Strelapass mountain restaurant invite you to stop for a bite to eat, the latter directly on the slopes.
