Description
In the picturesque village of Scudellate, located in the upper Muggio Valley, is the Scudellate Ostello. The ostello has recently been refurbished to accommodate families, couples, backpackers, groups of friends, school groups and work colleagues who want to enjoy a stay on the slopes of Monte Generoso. The surrounding landscape is suitable for all lovers of nature and local food and wine. From here, it is possible to set off on various excursions on foot and by mountain bike between Switzerland and Italy. A dense network of paths allows you to admire the typical flora and fauna of the region. The Osteria Manciana, located just a few meters away, is happy to delight guests of the ostello, from breakfast to dinner, with typical regional dishes and drinks.
As a hamlet of the former municipality of Muggio, at 904 meters above sea level, Scudellate is a remarkable example of a linear settlement on a steep slope, with old terraced fields downhill and meadows uphill. The history of the population was marked not only by agricultural activities supplemented by emigration, but also by the proximity of the border with Italy, which has led to intense smuggling activities. The proximity to the border enabled Scudellate to develop a privileged relationship with the village of Erbonne, which is itself a hamlet of San Fedele Intelvi in the province of Como but is mainly populated by families original from Ticino. Scudellate and Erbonne are not only connected by an easily accessible hiking or cycling path, but also have a large part of their own history in common
